Silver Linings

Sorry for my absence over the last 2 weeks. You probably wouldn't have wanted a blog post to be fair as my first week of university was probably the most stressed I have ever been in my life. I didn't really understand anything that was happening, people kept telling me I needed Spanish lessons and everything was just causing me much confusion. A blog post about being stressed is no fun to read so I'm going to give you everything that has gone wrong now I'm on the other side, and feeling a lot more positive.

1. A bird pooped on me. I was casually sitting on a step watching the world go by and suddenly I felt something drop on my arm. I looked down and realised it was bird poo. Now, this is hilarious when it happens to someone else, to yourself not so much. I also don't carry around tissues so an old receipt had to suffice to wipe it off. SL (short for silver lining): This is meant to be good luck. I mean, I think this is just so you feel better about being pooed on but I'll take it.

2. I have seen cockroaches. Luckily they have all been dead, or supposedly dead. Every one I've seen has been lying on it's back in a supposed 'not alive' position. Actually, this isn't true. The first cockroach I saw was in my Airbnb, but I was just about to go to bed so I left it and hoped it would be gone in the morning. It was so no worries. The second one I saw was in the lounge of my new house, purportedly on it's way to cockroach heaven. However, when I looked down to make sure it hadn't moved, it had indeed disappeared. Cockroach Jesus? Now the next one I saw was also dead in the bathroom. This one however did not resurrect itself (which makes my theory about cockroach #2 more plausible, no?) SL: They are not big, black, slimy, gross beatles which is the image I had in my head. They are actually more of a copper, orange colour (so quite, I don't want to say nice, but not horrendous) and they don't seem to have an attack attitude. So, as long as they keep their distance from me, we have no trouble.

3. I bought a bike from a market. Within 1/2 hour of riding it the gears had broken and the chain had fallen off whilst riding home from said market. SL: The bike wasn't expensive, there is a repair shop nearby and the city has the equivalent of Boris bikes (Mibici) so if I feel like I need a bike, it's not too hard to find one.

4. Homesickness, specifically for London, which I really wasn't expecting. SL: I'm in Mexico...

So I guess, welcome back and now my laptop is fixed (I'm sorry but I couldn't think of a silver lining for this so it couldn't go in my list) hopefully there will be new posts slightly more regularly.

Also, my friends arrived from England so I took them for brunch (more specifically pancakes) over the road from 'La Teteria' (on the best street in Guadalajara) and they were delicious. Apart from, I ordered them with fruit and the bowl with the fruit contained way too much papaya. I don't understand the fuss over papaya. It tastes like feet (well, what I imagine feet would taste like). It's very disappointing as a fruit because it has such a cool name and colour but it just really isn't the one. Give me watermelon or mango any day of the week over papaya, bleh.
