Museum Moment: Musée Picasso

This weekend I knew I wanted to go to an exhibition, I just didn't know where. I had a little Google of all the current exhibitions and Black is Beautiful- Faith Ringgold at the Musée Picasso jumped out at me. I'd seen the posters in the metro a couple of months back and though that I'd missed it. Luckily it's on until the 2nd July, so I booked my ticket and off I went.

I knew nothing about Ringgold before I went but I was pleasantly surprised- her work is beautiful, powerful and educative. I especially loved the paintings she did on printed fabric. For more information- https://www.museepicassoparis.fr/en/faith-ringgold

I then went about the rest of the museum, which has been re-arranged by Paul Smith as a retrospective of all of Picasso's periods in a cohesive and fluid manner. You walk through his blue period, his classical period, the clown paintings, the bull-fighter sketches (a personal favourite), the owl sculptures- all the way through to his last paintings. The exhibition also mixes contemporary artists who have been inspired by Picasso and interpreted his work in a new way. I love it when galleries/museums do this as it gives you a real sense of movement and understanding of the artistic development.

It is definitely worth spending a morning or an afternoon in this wonderful museum. The 3rd arrondissement is also one of my favourite neighbourhoods- lots of great food options (Le marché des enfants rouges, Iovine's), cute boutiques and little squares to sit on a bench and watch the world go by.
